Apprentices Kick Off for Sport Relief
A group of young apprentices in Cumbria have helped raise £600 for Sport Relief by organising a charity football match between some of the leading businesses in the region.
The Logistics Apprentices at System Training brought together teams from Stobart Rail, David Allen Accountants, System Group and colleagues from their course for the six-a-side tournament held at the Sheepmount Stadium in Carlisle.
After a competitive round of fixtures System IT & Recruitment and the Logistics Apprentices fought it out in the final, with System IT & Recruitment narrowly taking victory as they scored the only goal in the closely-fought decider.
Following the match a cheque for the proceeds raised from the teams’ entry fees was presented to Sport Relief, which will see all the money go towards helping disadvantaged people, both in the UK and across the world’s poorest countries, to turn their lives around. As a reward for their efforts in organising the match the Apprentices were each presented with a new Carlisle United football shirt kindly donated by CUFC.
Michael Fuller, a Logistics Apprentice at System Training, said:
“We had a great time with some very competitive football and it was good that we could enjoy ourselves at the same time as raising a decent amount of money for Sport Relief. We’ve just come to the end of our Apprentice programme at System and are now heading to placements with local businesses so we planned this match to really challenge the staff before we left. Tying it all in to raise money for an important cause made it a very worthwhile evening.”
